Welcome to Vishwa's Vermicompost!
Background To learn how to make vermicompost, I undertook training in Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Barielly. IVRI awarded me a certificate of training and I procurred earthworms from them (a new variety called Jai Gopal that they have). It took me a year of trial and error to successfully establish a vermicompost unit at my village in Uttar Pradesh. I also visited an efficiently run vermicompost farm at Jalesar and bought earthworms from there (thanks to its owner Shri M. Bansal). Process In brief, the basic material, animal dung, has to be cooled to a temperature suitable for the growth of worms (18-36°C). Pukka structures (as shown in photos) with overhead shade to protect from rain and sun are required before worms are released in the dung. Typically, it takes 3 months for dung to be fully converted into ready-to-use vermicompost. I am currently using vermicompost to grow seasonal vegetables and slowly incorporating it in cash crops such as potato and wheat. On-farm demonstration and price We have facilities in Nasirpur for training of 2-3 people at a time. For details, please get in touch on phone. We also sell ready-to-use vermicompost in bags of 40 kg each @ Rs. 150/bag. |
